Sir John has vowed to continue working for as long as he can
The 75-year-old star, famous for roles in The Naked Civil Servant, The Elephant Man and Harry Potter, said he “continues to be optimistic”.
Speaking to the Radio Times magazine, he said: “I can’t say I worry about mortality, but it’s impossible to get to my age and not have a little contemplation of it.
“We’re all just passing time, and occupy our chair very briefly. But my treatment is going terrifically well, so I’m optimistic.”
Sir John revealed he was in the early stages of his illness in June but has vowed to continue working.
His latest recording, he said ironically, is Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell for BBC Radio 4.’
