The personal data of up to 2.4 million Carphone Warehouse customers, including bank details and encrypted credit card information, may have been accessed in a cyber attack
The mobile phone retailer said a division of Carphone Warehouse was hit by the attack, in which data including names, addresses and dates of birth could also have been accessed.
The affected division operates the websites OneStopPhoneShop.com, e2save.com and Mobiles.co.uk and provides services to iD Mobile, TalkTalk Mobile, Talk Mobile and some Carphone Warehouse customers.
Carphone Warehouse has warned customers not to fall for bogus callers pretending to be the company after it was hacked.
Up to 2.4 million people may have had their personal data and bank details accessed in the “sophisticated” scam which happened over recent weeks.
However, the hack was only announced on Saturday leaving many worried about identity theft and that their money may be at risk.
