A violent rapist who attacked his victim on Christmas Day has been jailed after his own mother brought him back from Europe to face justice
Tudor Tofoi, 21, was convicted of a ‘violent and brutal’ rape
Tudor Tofoi, of High Street, Dover in Kent, was found guilty at Canterbury Crown Court of dragging a woman into a garage area and raping her alongside another man after the victim was on a night out.
After being traced by police from CCTV footage, Romanian-born Tofoi fled the country before being brought back by his mother prior to arrest.
The 21-year-old had then told police that the incident was consensual – a claim that was rejected by the jury.
During sentencing, Judge Adele Williams told Tofoi he had carried out a “violent and brutal rape” which had prompted the victim to suffer ongoing psychological harm.
Kent Police detective Inspector Lee Whitehead praised the victim for her courage throughout the process, and said police were working to bing the second suspect back to Britain.
Tofoi was jailed for 15 years with a minimum sentence of 10 years before he can be considered for parole and an extra three years on licence.
