A driver paralysed from the waist down caught drink driving at 80mph has been spared prison.
Lewis Laville was caught drink driving in his girlfriend’s car
Lewis Laville drove his girlfriend’s Toyota Yaris but it wasn’t adapted for his paralysis. He had to drive it using his hands to push his legs down on the brake and acceleration pads.
Asked by a police officer how he would react if a child ran out in front of the car he said he didn’t know. The judge said Laville’s driving “defied belief”.
The 21-year-old was paralysed in a motorbike accident four years ago. He has access to a specially adapted motorbike but wasn’t driving this when he was caught in May. He told the police officer who stopped him that he felt “suicidal”.
Today he received a suspended sentence from Swansea Crown Court and was banned from driving for two years.
