Thousands of motorists could have their parking tickets refunded after police admitted it had issued 16,000 notices in error
West Yorkshire Police say they are aware of the reports regarding Fixed Penalty Tickets issued by Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).
In March this year it came to light that some PCSOs had not been correctly granted powers to issue non-endorsable Police Fixed Penalty Notices for parking offences.
A search of the police’s current records system, which goes back to 2006, shows 16,000 parking tickets may be affected, totalling just over £485,000 paid to the courts.
They say other tickets may have been issued in similar circumstances for up to three years earlier.
The potential refund process is likely to take several weeks and further details will be published on www.westyorkshire.police.uk.
The issue only relates to Non-Endorsable Police Fixed Penalty Notices for parking offences and not to those tickets issued by local authority staff.
