A Welcome to Yorkshire billboard greets visitors to the county.
Welcome to Yorkshire has set this year’s tourism promotion event for 18th March in Scarborough, with plans to feature star guests that will include Paralympic superstar Hannah Cockroft MBE, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting the UK’s biggest tourism conference in Scarborough, especially this year when the town will welcome the Tour de Yorkshire. It’s a unique opportunity for anyone involved in the tourism industry in this region to find out what’s planned for the year ahead, and to network with others,” says Janet Deacon, the North Yorkshire area director for Welcome to Yorkshire.
The conference will, among other business, announce new campaigns, projects and initiatives that will be used to promote tourism in Yorkshire.
And Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive, Gary Verity has called on the stakeholders to take the opportunity to claim the county’s place on the global tourism stage. He said Yorkshire’s profile as a destination had never been higher than at present.
“Y 15 will help bring businesses together and highlight our plans for the future to capitalise on the achievements already made – and even better, it’s free to attend,” Mr Verity said.
The event, to be held at Scarborough Spa and expected to be graced by about 1,000 people, will also discuss Welcome to Yorkshire’s entry for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Sports presenter Rob Walker will be the day’s presenter.
